SEO-Savvy Content Creators director Rosemary Ann Ogilvie started her working life as a very junior assistant with Deazeley Photographic Studio in Toowoomba, where over three years she was involved in all aspects of professional portrait and wedding photography, studio and outdoor. She was just 17 when she was put in charge of the workroom.
A range of private-sector office jobs followed, giving Rosemary broad experience in all aspects of accounting. This enabled her to work her way into middle management at Dalton Packaging, where she remained for 16 years, gaining extensive practical experience in her dual roles of state accountant (for Queensland and Western Australia) and quality manager (for Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide branches).
Her role as accountant encompassed the traditional financial aspects of accounts-payable supervision, accounts-receivable monitoring, collecting overdue accounts, detailed annual budgeting, and preparing accounts to profit and loss and balance sheet stage monthly and annually.
Additionally, her responsibilities included office management; recruitment for the administration and warehouse departments; computer installation and support for the six regional Queensland branches; assessing major asset and services purchases; overseas inventory purchasing, fleet management, and insurance.
Rosemary took on the position of quality manager during the mid-1990s, implementing ISO9001 in three state branches and achieving accreditation on the first audit for each. By this time she was “moonlighting” as a freelance non-fiction writer, and believes her writing skills enabled her to strip the documentation back to the clear, understandable and doable essentials.
A restructure of the company Rosemary was working for led to her pursuing her nascent freelance writing career full time.
